“Cat Stevens” on the Pope
Current Affairs September 25th, 2006It seems Cat Stevens…err…Yusef Islam should stick to making music or whatever it is he does now. In recent comments he notes how the Pope’s recent words prove the Pope is not infallible. Of course, Catholics believe that the Pope quoting a Byzantine emperor in the midst of an academic discussion is infallible. Not. "Cat" was either sleeping during the lesson on Vatican I or his teacher did a really poor job.

Wow, I didn’t even know he was still around.

LP,
Yeah, and I recently heard he has a new album coming out. I really like Cat Stevens, but I doubt I’ll be buying Yusef Islam’s newest, lol.

Cat Stevens, like most people, have never really understood papal infallibility. Poor catechesis undoubtedly contributed to his conversion to Islam. (His songs really aren’t all that wonderful either. As part of the choir, I had to sing “Morning Has Broken” every year for graduation ceremonies. Pure torture!)
In any event, you are being tagged with the geography meme. Have fun!

well, I guess you could say he was infallible (even though the thoughts weren’t his own. I guess he’d be more of a prophet), since the muslims got mad and caused violence and said that the Pope should convert or die by the sword.
Alas…

American Phoenix,
I would agree that papal infallibility one of the most misunderstood dogmas. That meme looks really fun and I’ll get on it tomorrow.
Danny,
Good point. There’s nothing like getting violent to protest someone calling you violent.
