More of Those Crazy 80s
Current Affairs March 5th, 2006
I was scanning through the radio stations on the way home from the YMCA yesterday and I heard Don’t You (Forget About Me) by the Simple Minds. Naturally, it made me want to go home and find some great 80s songs to listen to. This page was really helpful in going back down memory lane. Here is what is currently coming from my speakers:
Heaven is a Place on Earth- Belinda Carlisle
Holiday Road- Matt Pond Pa (Yahoo music doesn’t have the original by Buckingham, but their version is excellent)
No Myth- Michael Penn
Back on the Chain Gang- the Pretenders
Lady in Red- Chris DeBurgh
I Melt With You- Modern English
Wind of Change- Scorpions
Also, I think when Carmel gets here we’re going to rent The Breakfast Club (to purchase go here) and perhaps another John Hughes classic (I don’t know if she knows this yet!). For some reason I’m in real need of watching a good 80s movie and listening to some good 80s music (an oxymoron for some, I know).
Photo is self-explanatory!

Love The Breakfast Club, but all the songs you mention are ones that I could live without ever hearing again! I remember when they would play that Belinda Carlisle song over and over on MTV (back when MTV played videos).

Jonathon - with your 80’s kick going on, have you had a chance to watch the new mini-series on Toys that has been on VH1? If not, you should check it out.

Robb,
First of all, I agree with you about the music above! It has a certain sentimental appeal, but objectively (and even subjectively after a few listens) it’s not terribly enduring. And, I got a laugh out of MTV playing music videos. Only a child of the 80s (and perhaps early 90s) can remember that from experience, lol!
I am interested in the series on toys. Thanks for the info. I don’t get cable here, but since I’ll be visiting my parents soon, I will check it out!
