The Pope’s New Encyclical
Catholic, Writings January 28th, 2006I have started reading the Pope’s new encyclical Deus Caritas Est. I will give my thoughts on it when I’m finished. As with any writing coming from the Vatican, especially by one so theologically astute as Benedict XVI, it may take awhile to read carefully. So far think that the encyclical is a an excellent teaching on love, a theme which is often completely twisted in culture and sometimes the Church.
Update for those coming via an aggregator: My thoughts (part I) are here.

I’m also reading the encyclical very slowly and have only gotten to No. 10. I can’t read Benedict quickly at all. I read a page or two, scribble some notes in my journal, then go away and think about what I read. His writings are too rich to skim over. I do slightly envy people who were able to get to the end by noon on Wednesday. How’d they do that?
