Our Lady of Consolation
Catholic, Shrines October 8th, 2005David is in town with me this weekend. It’s always fun for twins to be re-united! We’re going to hang out and enjoy our 3 day weekends. One thing we decided to do was to visit the Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio, our favorite shrine (and believe me we’ve been to many). We’re going on a pilgrimage there today, so please keep us in your prayers. Of course, we’ll both have photos and comments.

When I was a young girl, my family would go at least once a year, usually August 15th to the National Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey Ohio. What I remember: I remember the smell of the beeswax candles and their flickering light, the scent of incense, the hush of the sanctuary, the miracles testified to by left behind health aids, the candlelight processions and peace of the park. What it taught me: God’s Spirit can be found when you truly search for Him, God’s peace abounds in solitude and prayer and meditation, God’s love is still active in our world today no matter what age you are or what you might be going through. I am 48 years old now, and I live over 150 miles from that precious spot. I am battling to learn to walk again after an injury. But come next month, I will be there and I will join in the hymns and the worship, the prayer and the seeking. I will relive the past and look joyfully to the future. And I will give thanks to a good and gracious God!
